I took out the spacer (and kept it ;^) just in case). Left the plug alone.
Results: more throttle response. Noticable. And better sound (constant rumble, less of a sputter). Still an occaisional backfire (once on my 10 mile ride home), but only on quick deceleration (snapping throttle shut). If I slow gradually, she just hums right along. Thanks for help and advice.
BTW, I'll probably roll 1000 mile tomorrow!!!!
